Students and staff at Long Intermediate School celebrated a memorable moment Friday afternoon.
United States Marine Veteran Cpl. Dennis Brantley was a special guest on campus. He coordinated with the school to have a surprise marriage proposal. Taylor Parker is a 6th-grade math teacher and coach. She was experiencing a normal day teaching class and had no idea she would become a fiancée Friday afternoon!
Corporal Brantley surprised Parker in the school gym. As she walked in the door, students, staff and her boyfriend were inside waiting for the special marriage proposal. Several students were holding balloons and a sign reading, “Will you marry me?”.
She said, “yes” after her fiancé took a knee and handed her flowers.
“I thought it was weird that the other coach took me away during class,” Parker said. “But I didn’t know what I was coming back to.”
Cpl. Brantley said he was more anxious before the big moment Friday than in his entire four years of service in the Marines.
“I was nervous and she really started crying. It made me kind of feel bad. I didn’t want to make her cry though,” said Brantley.
It was an emotional afternoon with joys, tears and laughter.
The couple celebrated the moment with their students, staff and Long Lobo Intermediate Family.
